Overview

The Common Plane is, by Athenaeum convention, the baseline realm β€” the plane against which other planes are described and from which most of this collection's correspondents originally hail. Its inhabitants do not call it the Common Plane. They call it the world. The convention is the Athenaeum's, applied for the convenience of readers who might otherwise mistake one realm for another.

It is the plane on which Yggy is most active, on which the pantheon operates most visibly, and on which most recorded history unfolds. When a member of the pantheon meddles, it is usually here. When a hero is born, it is usually here. When an adventure is recorded for the histories, the histories were almost certainly written here.

The valley entrance to Yggy stands open at the base of the World Tree. Hjarn is coiled there, sleeping all but twelve hours of every lunar month. When awake, he grants passage to other realms β€” provided the petitioner knew where to find him in the first place.

Magic

Fully functional. Arcane, divine, primal, and innate magic all operate as expected. Spells cast on this plane will work on this plane. Enchantments hold. Pacts are honored. This correspondent considers this the unremarkable baseline; it is only by contrast with Earth that the abundance becomes visible.

Native Population

The True Races and their associated nations:

  • True Elves of Alfheimr
  • Aasimar of Felitergia
  • Dwarves of Rinqash
  • Goliaths of Darham
  • Vampires of Froila
  • Shadlings of Cosheaf
  • Drow of Bretested
  • Humans, distributed across most major nations
  • The broader Ancients and True Races roster β€” see _Species Index

Resident Gods

All ten pantheon deities operate here. See _Pantheon Index.

Yggy Status

Open. Hjarn grants passage to those who find him on a waking night and meet his standards. His standards are not codified anywhere this correspondent has been able to find β€” the closest thing to documentation is the lived experience of those who passed, and the silence of those who did not.
