Quick Facts

Government: Tribal Confederation · People: Tabaxi, Kenku, Shifters · Capital:

Overview

The Beast Tribes are predominantly comprised of demi-humans. Their lands, characterized by dense forests and wide-open plains, reflects the rich diversity of the tribes themselves. Each tribe embodies traits of different animals, exhibiting a splendid array of physical and cultural heterogeneity.

Constituent Peoples

The confederation is composed of three primary peoples, each bringing distinct traits and traditions to the whole:

  • Tabaxi — feline hunters and storytellers, valued for their speed, agility, and long memory for tales. Tabaxi tribes tend to occupy the forest edges and serve frequently as scouts and traders between the confederation and the outside world.
  • Kenku — avian mimics and tinkerers, known for their resourcefulness and uncanny ability to gather and relay information. Kenku tribes often operate as the confederation's eyes and ears, and their councils are rarely without a Kenku voice.
  • Shifters — beast-blooded and instinct-driven, the founding people of the confederation. Shifter tribes carry the legacy of Many-Tails and are traditionally afforded the first voice at joint councils, though they rarely seek to dominate them.

History

Government & Politics

The foundation of the Beast Tribes is attributed to the legendary demi-human hero, Shifter "Many-Tails." Folklore paints Shifter as a figure who bore the traits of multiple animals, possessing the cunning of a fox, the strength of a bear, the grace of a deer, and the resilience of a boar. During a period of intense persecution and dispersion of the demi-humans, Shifter managed to unify the disparate tribes under a common banner. While each tribe maintained their distinct culture and heritage, they were united by the shared objective of creating a sanctuary for their kind. This unity provided strength and security, transforming the once-warring tribes into a formidable alliance. Today, a council composed of representatives from each tribe makes collective decisions that impact all tribes.

Closer to home, the Beast Tribes have a special bond with the Duchy of Sutro due to their shared demi-human lineage, often backing each other in times of conflict. Each tribe within the Beast Tribes maintains its independence in internal governance, only uniting for external threats or council meetings. This delicate balance of unity and independence, coupled with their strong alliances, positions the Beast Tribes as a unique force in the world stage. Their culture embodies a spirit of independence, communal cooperation, and unyielding resilience that is revered and respected by their allies and adversaries alike.

External Relations

Despite their primitive lifestyle and lack of a centralized government, the Beast Tribes play a significant role in the political landscape. The diverse range of alliances they've formed, primarily through trade and mutual respect, strengthens their position. One such inseparable alliance is with the True Elves of Alfheimr, a bond formed from the elves' respect for nature and the shared experiences of being distinct from mainstream civilizations.
